Thelma and Louise File

The 'Thelma and Louise' File, inspired by the photo taking in the famous film - throw the camera out to arms length, and just shoot. Framing, sizing...it's irrelevant. Its all about capturing the moment. Here's me, capturing the moment with special friends, near and far....

Publication!

I'm excited to say that I have an article in M Magazine, a liftout in today's Sunday Age. So far I can't find a link to the article on the website but here is a scan...hopefully if you click on it, you can read it.

Given that Belmere Creative is less than 2 months old (and thus only 2 months since I decided to try for some freelance work), I am very excited to have this early success. I am especially excited to have had success on a topic I love, and a place that is my second home.

ETA: It's up on the Age website here

*tap tap* is this thing on?

yes, and we are LIVE.

Belmere Creative, that is.

The website still has some work to happen but it's up, it's live and I would love some feedback.

In other news, I have a shocking head cold and feel like total CRAP. Not only that but with this virus, it of course sets off the urticaria, which is the fancy word for the skin condition I have been battling since returning from Canada. Turns out it is a viral condition, meaning there's no cure. It will just "go away" (I was so pleased to pay the dermatologist $140 for THAT gem). I come up in red spots, varying in size and redness. They tend to just come from nowhere, make me itch then go away just as quick. Not right now. When he said I had chronic urticaria, he wasn't kidding. Right now, the spots are HUGE and RED and RAISED and ITCHY as hell. It's rather unpleasant, on top of the head cold. I sooooo hate being sick!

On that note, I am going inside to blow my nose.

introducing

BELMERE CREATIVE

Why Belmere, you ask?

Belmere is the name of our family farm in Bairnsdale, which has been in our family since 1960 and which soon will be sold. We expect that the house, which Plugger lived in and died in, will be bulldozed when the farm sells. And Belmere the farm will be no more.

Belmere (the farm) got it's name from the two racehorses Plugger had the greatest success with - Bell's Chance and Mere Talk.

So when I was thinking of a name that meant something to me, I naturally thought about my family and my beloved Plugger, who I miss so much. But I didn't think Plugger Creative Services really sounded like a serious name!! Then it occurred to me - the farm. Belmere. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me...and the other names I had been thinking about seemed to fade into the background.

So Belmere Creative Services it is...with www.belmerecreative.com being the domain name I have registered (there's nothing there yet).

And why Creative Services? Well...I plan to offer my photography as part of my business. But there will be more. Other creative opportunities are arising and I hope will continue to. So I needed a term which provided an accurate "umbrella" - and I felt Creative Services was a great way to describe what I hope my business will become over time.

Exciting times....

Words to Live By

  • WABI SABI
...the beauty of things impermanent and incomplete.... Wabi-Sabi is the release of control. It avoids beating up the creative soulo for not achieving perfection. Recognising and embracing our imperfections allows room for growth. The only result for demanding perfection is certain failure... prefection is a cruel boss. It leads to giving up, depression and anger rather than eagerness for growth and improvement. Living a Wabi-Sabi life means letting go of the stress of competition, relentless achievement, and replacing them with a willingness to let life find its own pace... In a Wabi-Sabi life, you recognise all things are impermanent, imperfect and incomplete. Once you open the door to imperfection, a creative force rushes into your life... We dont know what will happen tomorrow. Often we cant influence the future. What we think of as failure is simply a lack if knowing. You dont always have to know. And you dont always have to be in control. Take off that heavy obligation of knowing and controlling...then decide right now. In this moment. To live and grow, And leave perfection behind. - Quinn McDonald - Sommerset Studio March/April 2006
