Thelma and Louise File

The 'Thelma and Louise' File, inspired by the photo taking in the famous film - throw the camera out to arms length, and just shoot. Framing, sizing...it's irrelevant. Its all about capturing the moment. Here's me, capturing the moment with special friends, near and far....

he is SUCH a keeper

Michael, that is.....today is our 4th wedding anniversary.

Being the sweetie he is, he left a card for me to wake up to this morning when he'd gone to work. This is it:

Card1

Sweet huh? I mean, it's nice that he even thought to buy me a card....

but it was what was written inside which has had me "smiling" all day.....

No, I am not going to share with you what he wrote himself, but I thought you'd like the kind message that was printed inside....

...

I guess it's the thought that counts, right????

(you need to know that I laughed so much I cried, yep the true meaning of LAUGH.OUT.LOUD....this is classic Michael and will go down in Hall Family Folklore!).

inspiration overload

in my mailbox....

I am currently not well - headaches associated with ear inflammation and sinus problems. I feel like crap just quietly.

Thankfully this has been a most incredible mail week for inspiration - even if I can't stay awake long enough to make stuff, I am getting ideas galore....

1. Cloth Paper Scissors - Issue 15. It has taken me 2 days to read this cover to cover.

2. Somerset Studio - Nov/Dec 2007. This magazine always takes time to absorb.

3. Journal Revolution by Karen Dinino and Linda Woods - if it's half as good as Visual Chronicles, it's gonna rock out...

and 4. Mixed Emulsions: Altered Art Techniques for Photographic Imagery by Angela Cartwright. I love this woman's work (not to mention I am Sound of Music tragic enough to go on the tour in Salzburg AND sing along in the van to every song.....more than once) and I took a good look at this book at the Art Gallery of NSW a few weeks back - had I the money then I would have bought it but it was sooo much cheaper, even with postage, from Amazon. Worth the wait and WELL WORTH A LOOK....

Tomorrow is Michael's and my 4th wedding anniversary. It has been a tough year for us, and at times I wondered and worried that we would not make it. But we DID and we are taking every day as we find it. One day at a time. And you know what, I think that, slowly but surely, it's working. We're getting there. I have a pretty incredible husband in Michael and I never want to lose him. So here's to us, babe....through good times and bad....we're making it.

26 November 2007

it has been a busy week

and knowing where to start is something else altogether.

I got a new job. I am an event co-ordinator for The Event Hire Company in Southbank. 3 days a week and will work in with Uni when I go back in February. The work is busy but fun and right up my alley - I love organising things (those who attended Crop for CanTeen will know this!)

Last Tuesday my dear old Dad turned 60!! We are having a formal lunch this Sunday for him but we did go out for pizza on the night. I can't believe my Dad is 60!! He came and helped Michael put up a fence yesterday at our place so Elvis and Sunny have a secure place to play during the day. Happy Birthday Dad! Love ya!

Of course, the weekend was consumed by the election, the result of which I am less than happy about! But that is democracy for you. I hope Labor don't completely stuff our economy but history tells us they will. The idea of wall-to-wall Labor Gorvernments doesn't thrill me either but it's not because I voted for them!! I wish John Howard well in retirement - he's been a wonderful PM for us and in years to come we will look back and remember how good things have been under his leadership.

As for Peter Costello....what a spoilt brat! I am very annoyed with his dummy spit - he bitched about wanting the leadership for years. Now he has it, albeit in Opposition, and he walks away. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour and gives nothing back to the Party who gave him his opportunity. NOT impressed at all by that.

There's so much more I could say about the election but I'll bite my tongue....for now!

OK gotta get back to work but I will add photos tonight from Nat's Baby Shower on Saturday. She looks amazing :)

more to come

introducing Addie

My younger sister and I drove up today to meet our new niece, Addison Rose (to be known as Addie)...

She is just adorable and my sister Suse is doing great after having an 18 hour labour then a c-section. They will hopefully be home during this week and I am hoping to go up and spend a few days helping Suse out (as Dad is on a course and her Mum lives interstate).

baby boom

Well it has started - the baby boom that is my life right now!

Earlier in the week, Thomas Webb made a surprise, early appearance (like, 5 weeks early) at 5lbs on November 13. So far he's doing well although still in special care. His Dad, Brad, is like a brother to me so I am very excited by the little bloke's arrival. Photo's as soon as I am able to visit.

Then, just an hour ago, my sister Suse had a baby girl by c-section, Addison was born weighing 7lb 7oz and 48cms in length! Hooray! My sister lives up on the Victorian-NSW border so I am hoping to go up during the week to meet my new niece!

At any moment, my best friend is going to have her baby too, so it is certainly baby fever around here!!

so you would like a coffee machine for christmas?

A couple of weeks back, I went shopping with my Mum. She was in the market for a new TV and washing machine since we'd been using ours at her place and took them with us. While we were out, I was looking at little coffee machines, and saw one at around $150 which I thought would suit us. Mum said "no worries, I can get you one for Christmas".

So today she goes out with Michael to get some fencing for our yard (to stop the puppies from getting out while we are not home) and to get him to help her get the "right TV".

When Michael gets home, he starts telling me about how she bought a 32" widescreen LCD at well over $1000, to which I said "she's mad". Now that's just me - TVs are not my thing really so spending that kind of money on one is insane in my book - I only watch the news, sport and ALL SAINTS. So I can live without a flash TV.

Then he says "wait til you see what she got US". He wouldn't tell me, but deep down I was hopeful she might have got us the coffee machine early.

Then he walked in with this:

Img_0007 (sorry I had to add the image of Adam Gilchrist, he is my absolute favourite).

We ALSO now own a 32" widescreen LCD TV!! She bought us one too!

She's friggen insane - I went (gently) mad at her for spending that kind of money on a TV for us when the one we had was perfectly fine. Michael of course is in TV Heaven and is talking about going sick off work so he can stay home all week and watch it!! It's really cool and I admit the picture is pretty good! But OH MY GOD!!

The sad part is I now have to buy my own coffee machine!! But I guess I can wear that one!

Saturday morning

and the cricket is on so there can be nothing too wrong with the world.

I am really tired, I have not been sleeping well due to an ear inflammation issue in my right ear, which I think is not causing issues with my left ear too. I first noticed it hurting when I was flying home from Sydney and put it down to maybe not popping my ears properly, but since it's now 5 days later and I am still in pain....methinks it's not that simple. The doctor did give me eardrops but keeping them in my ear is difficult - I can lie on my side for like, 10 minutes, and when I get up it still runs out. I think there's some barrier preventing it from getting to the inflammed part! So Nurofen is needed (and let's all thank God for Nurofen) and trying to sleep when I can. I am just so tired.

I've been making some extra pages for my NYC album using transparencies. Remind me to show you (if you're interested that is!). I need to track down some more 6x6 AC refills - anyone got any ideas on that?

My beautiful little guy, Elvis, just meandered into my room to say hello. He smells really good because he's had a shower this morning. Now he's all fluffy. I should show you this photo:

P1000024
I used it in my Glimpses album. I took this photo just last week of the puggies snuggled up on the couch - when they snuggle they snuggle tight - sometimes even piled on top of one another. It's adorable. I captured this shot when they were readjusting themselves after a tough day of....being pugs. I love the look Sunny is giving Elvis and Elvis getting ready for a sleep after this tough day. I love these guys soooo much. They are everything to me. No matter when I am lonely or struggling with life, they are just so full of love for me and make me feel so special. I have the best kids :) And I just LOVE this photo...

...the beauty of things impermanent and incomplete.... Wabi-Sabi is the release of control. It avoids beating up the creative soulo for not achieving perfection. Recognising and embracing our imperfections allows room for growth. The only result for demanding perfection is certain failure... prefection is a cruel boss. It leads to giving up, depression and anger rather than eagerness for growth and improvement. Living a Wabi-Sabi life means letting go of the stress of competition, relentless achievement, and replacing them with a willingness to let life find its own pace... In a Wabi-Sabi life, you recognise all things are impermanent, imperfect and incomplete. Once you open the door to imperfection, a creative force rushes into your life... We dont know what will happen tomorrow. Often we cant influence the future. What we think of as failure is simply a lack if knowing. You dont always have to know. And you dont always have to be in control. Take off that heavy obligation of knowing and controlling...then decide right now. In this moment. To live and grow, And leave perfection behind. - Quinn McDonald - Sommerset Studio March/April 2006
